My weekend ...
I don’t believe much in wise sayings but this one sure did come true. “The best laid plans often go astray!!!!”
Well I had tall plans for this weekend, which was dismantled block by block by the Evil Master (My Manager!!!!).
Things at intel was going pretty fine, till the point I thought “Hey hold on a sec, I could take a break this weekend!!!”.
I guess that should have the starting point of all the things, coz after that all my plans went down the drain…
I woke up beaming on a beautiful Friday morning (Fridays r always beautiful I guess J), expecting a long weekend of 2 days away from
the drudgery of work, but alas that wasn’t to be. I was given a rude shake by a phone call (My team mate) informing me that we r supposed to be
at office by 9. what the #$%@!!! Was dragging my feet to my luxurious bathroom (Should take the time here to boast abt my Guest house: The place is an absolute dream, with a large single bedroom with the view of the gardens and room service to take care of ur mess, it couldn’t get better.) The shower felt unusually
very good and comforting, but the phone rang again!! Damn, already I am late, from then on things were on fast forward mode.
Mad rush to the closet, selecting something that looks like a jean and a shirt and running to the dining room at speed of light to get some omlette and Corn-flakes,
Things were going just as messed-up as expected!
All my trips to office come along with a free stop at all the junctions for half-an-hour as the honking cars, just wont give way for some other car.All of a sudden u see Software Engineers thinking that they r onsite, start driving on the right hand side of road and leading to u-know-what, yes more traffic. Finally I had achieved the most remarkable adventure of my life (atleast for today). I had reached office, with not as much scratches as I had expected J .If you think that things r looking up and day is gr8 as it started out, tat is precisely when u get a mail from ur PM saying do this, do that, what is the status and what not.I had to submit some status report and just when I was about to start with that my Client Manager came to me with a frantic look on his eyes. Well to say the truth, He is always frantic…he always assumes that things have gone terribly bad!!! I think he has grossly misunderstood crisis management, he always imagines that there is a crisis in hand and tries to solve everything in the fire fighting mode. To say honestly, I think I like his style of management, where he assumes by Murphy’s law that something is always wrong!!!.
But that is besides the point, he came rushing to me pointing it out that there are certain tasks that were pending in my name and how are those things going?
Explaining him that I am doing something will be like explaining rocket-science to a KG kid. So I left it and I started doing whatever, then again came the frantic calling this time it was really alarming as the tests that were supposed to pass were failing beautifully. The log file was staring at my face and was laughing, “u moron…u thought u were going to have a weekend is it?”. And that’s how it started, the test cases that were failing involved 48 hours of extra-hours so that things went smoothly. Yep, u guessed it, my weekend was spent on a ghost town, where all cubicles silently staring at me and mocking at my helplessness. If u thought this in itself is a punishment of sorts, then u nope, its not over yet.
I know the food around ITPL is not exactly help urself-to-the-max kind, but its edible for the most part. But I heard the worst affects u only when u don’t need it the most. So I didn’t know what exactly the cause was, but the night of Saturday was a total wipe-out (Literally!!!). Had severe probs with the stomach and though I was desperately trying to get my pain undercontrol, I was also kind of happy that I could take a break on Sunday. But I think that was proved pretty much impossible when my team mate called in the morning and said “We have to leave”. Somehow I was feeling kind of normal by noon and It was getting beyond the threshold of my ennui, so I decided to grace my team with my appearance.
When I reached what I say shocked me, all my team mates having “Hot Pizza’s” from Pizza Hut delivered at the office and hogging like a maniacs. But u must have guessed it by now, they had the galls to offer me when I was going thru a terrible period of reconciliation with my stomach. Well life is cruel and it throws lots of challenges at u, but I guess this was my last tempetation and the moment I rejected the offer, I started feeling better already (Yeah Right…in the hindsight ofcourse!! Pun intended:D )
Did I tell u guys that my company guest house has a beautiful swimming pool, the one at which I used to spend 50 bucks to travel and then take a bath. I was kind of happy that now I could swim whenever I want, but my luck would have it otherwise. The moment I moved into the guest house, they have shut down the pool for maintenance for a week and I will b at that guest house only for a week.
So there u go my friends…the happenings of my terrific Weekend ….I don’t know whether it happens to any one like this or not….it sure did happen to me…
